Summary of Severe Weather April 17th, 2024 (2024)

Overview

Numerous thunderstorms developed across Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio onApril 17th, 2024. These storms caused wind damage, hail, and minor flooding. A few rotating wall clouds were reported, however there were no confirmed tornadoes with this event within the NWS Northern Indiana Forecast area(as of 4/17/24 at 7:30 pm EDT). Several smaller limbs were downed, and an anchored pool was blown into a fence nearby. 
1248 PM Tstm Wnd Gst 1 WNW Avilla 41.37N 85.26W04/17/2024 E50 MPH Noble IN NWS Employee 1255 PM Tstm Wnd Dmg Pennville 40.49N 85.15W04/17/2024 Jay IN Emergency Mngr EMA surveyed damage at a residence in the 6000 block of N SR 1. A large area of shingles was blown off the west facing side of a home and dropped on the northeast side of the home. A older hog barn suffered extensive roof damage with the debris dropped just to the ENE of the location. Smaller debris was blown across SR 1 into the field. The damage appears to be related to straight line winds estimated at around 70 mph. 0118 PM Tstm Wnd Dmg Monroe 40.74N 84.94W04/17/2024 Adams IN Trained Spotter One downed power pole, another damaged power pole, and a couple large limbs (health unknown) downed in the area. 0200 PM Tstm Wnd Dmg 1 WNW Bryan 41.48N 84.57W04/17/2024 Williams OH Public Tree downed halfway across CR 13 off of W High Street. No information on size or health of the tree. 0200 PM Tstm Wnd Dmg 2 SSE Hallock 41.50N 84.54W04/17/2024 Williams OH 911 Call Center Report of severe damage to a home in the 14000 block of County Road F. No other information at this time. 
0205 PM Tstm Wnd Dmg 1 N Hallock 41.54N 84.56W04/17/2024 Williams OH Newspaper Semi truck blown over near intersection of OH-15 and CR-I. No injuries reported. 
0335 PM Non-Tstm Wnd Dmg 1 E Sevastopol 41.13N 86.00W04/17/2024 Kosciusko IN Newspaper Wind blew a tree down, which fell on an REMC pole, which snapped and fell on a house. A spark from the power line that fell on the house then set the house on fire. There was little damage as fire dept was able to put out quickly. No injuries/fatalities. Dog had to be rescued from smoke.At the time, Warsaw airport gusted to around 40 mph. Article in Timesuniononline.com.
