"Betty" Beatrice "Betty" I. Finger, age 93, of Clintonville, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Kindred Hearts of Clintonville. Betty was born on May 10, 1916, in the Township of Bear Creek, Waupaca County, the daughter of the late Phillip and Jennie (Lehman) Hanson. She attended Elm Dale School in the Township of Bear Creek and later worked at Fox River Paper, Apple-ton, and then at Hansen Glove Factory, Clintonville. She married Clifford Finger on December 8, 1943, in Menominee, MI.
The couple lived and farmed in the Township of Deer Creek, Outagamie County until 1964, when they moved to Clintonville. Betty owned and operated the Corn Crib Pop Corn Stand on Main St. and worked at Donaldson's Cleaners, both in Clintonville. Her husband Clifford preceded his wife in death on October 21. 2004.
Betty enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing cards, bingo, and taking rides in the country. She was a long-time wireless School. Millie loved to dance and told stories of their dancing outings at Wa-verly Beach. Millie never learned to drive, because the first time out she ended up in the ditch and that was it for her. Millie went on to school at Oshkosh Business College where she met a witty, handsome, enduring young man whom she fell deeply in love with, her Harry P.
They were married June 20, 1936 a love affair that lasted 64 years until Harry's death in 2001. Upon their graduation and marriage, Millie and Harry moved to Milwaukee, where Millie worked in the office of an advertising agency. In 1940. Millie and Harry bought the Red Owl grocery store in Fremont. She used to joke that they were the butcher, the baker and sometimes the candlestick maker.
Their daughter Jane Lou was born June 24, 1943. Jane brought much joy and happiness to Millie and Harry. After eight hard years of work, the grocery store was sold when Millie and her family moved to Appleton. In 1953, their son Joseph was born her family was now complete. In 1959, the family moved to the north side of Apple-ton where they joined St.
Pius Parish. Millie is a deeply religious woman who thanks God for all her blessings each day of her life. Millie was very involved with her church where she worked in the kitchen, credit union and church picnics. In 1981, she was named St. Pius Woman of the Year.
Whenever they needed a volunteer, Millie was there to help. Millie loved to bowl, play bridge with many of her friends and loved to cook. You never walked away from her table hungry. Her grandchildren have brought her much happiness. God blessed her with three grandsons, one granddaughter and later, four great-grandchildren.
Her grandchildren would say if you look in the dictionary under Grandmother you will find the picture of Grandma Millie. With her quiet ways and loving heart, thev cherished her deeply. Millie had been at Oakridge Gardens for over two years. She enjoyed the friendly and caring staff, constant activities and all "her girls."
